April 20

• A deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding 37 mph in the posted 20 mph zone on Crescent Beach Road near Madrona Street. The driver was also not wearing his safety belt. The driver was issued a traffic infraction for speeding and no seat belt.

• A deputy stopped a driver in Friday Harbor for texting and speeding. The driver was issued an infraction for texting while driving and a warning for speeding.

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft that occurred in Friday Harbor. The victim chose not to pursue charges of theft.

April 21

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft in Friday Harbor. The manager of the store which was robbed requested the suspect trespassed and did not wish to pursue charges of theft.

• A deputy responded to a dog at large complaint on Dill Road on Lopez. The reporting person stated the dog appeared to be injured. The dog was returned to the owner and subsequently evaluated by a veterinarian.

• Deputies recognized a man walking in the area of Guard Street and Tucker Avenue in Friday Harbor as having an active warrant of arrest. The subject was contacted and arrested on the warrant.

• A deputy investigated a traffic violation on Fisherman Bay Road on Lopez Island, which involved a motorist and a school bus, as students were exiting the bus. The matter was resolved and a report was completed.

• A deputy responded to the school on Lopez for a vandalism complaint. The reporting person stated an unidentified person damaged his son’s bike while it was parked at the school. A report was completed.

April 22

• The sheriff’s office received a report of property damage cause by a hit and run. Sometime during the prior night or early morning an unknown vehicle collided with a bank of mailboxes on Marguerite Place in Friday Harbor.

• Friday Harbor deputies were dispatched on a welfare check for a person with known health problems. Deputies arrived and the person was deceased. The coroner was called, next of kin were notified and the body taken to Evans Funeral home.

• Deputies responded to a business in Friday Harbor reference a person refusing to leave after told she was trespassed from the business. Deputies made contact with the subject and she was trespassed by police.

• San Juan County marine patrol deputies contacted a boater in distress south of Cattle Point, San Juan Island. The boater was having engine problems. After a safety inspection the deputies escorted the vessel safely back to Friday Harbor.

• An Eastsound resident reported having been solicited to be a mystery shopper. The company sent a check that was cashed at a local bank and later found to be fraudulent. The caller sent money from the fraudulent check via western union as requested. The caller is now responsible for the loss.

• A deputy initiated a traffic stop in Friday Harbor on a driver for talking on the cell phone. The driver was issued an infraction for cell phone use while driving.

• Deputies arrived to a report of a suspicious circumstance in Friday Harbor.

• After further investigation three juveniles were taken in custody for being a minor in possession and consumption of alcohol.

April 23

• A deputy stopped a motorist for not wearing their seatbelt on Fisherman Bay Road on Lopez. It was subsequently determined the driver committed a felony by placing a forged vehicle tab on his license plate. He was cited for traffic violations and the criminal case is under investigation.

• Deputies were dispatched to Mt. Dallas Road for a car in the ditch. The driver was contacted and found to be driving under the influence with a suspended license. He was arrested, processed and booked into jail, pending court.

• Lopez deputies were called resolve a citizen dispute over possession of a donkey. The parties were contacted and the donkey was returned to its owner.

• The reporting deputy was contacted in reference to a hit and run which occurred in the Friday Harbor area. A group of diners observed a vehicle strike a parked vehicle and then leave the scene. After the investigation was complete the incident was concluded to be non-criminal.

• Juveniles showed up at the prom in Friday Harbor to water balloon the dance. One of the Juveniles was contacted and arrested for minor in consumption of alcoholic beverages.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a prowler call in the Friday Harbor area. The Prowler turned out to be a lost intoxicated subject. The subject was transported to where he was staying.

April 24

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of Malicious Mischief in Friday Harbor. Three mailboxes had been damaged.

• Deputies contacted Canadian boaters on the water just south of Canada on regarding a firearms offense, which reportedly took place in Canada. They returned to Canada with Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officers where the investigation continues.

April 25

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to the San Juan area reference a report of harassment. The deputy contacted the caller. The caller was having problems with the neighbor yelling at her. There has been a history of this in the past. Neighbor contacted and warned to not communicate with the caller.

• Deputies were dispatched to contact an Eastsound resident reference a theft. Deputies were unable to determine who was responsible for the theft. A report will be completed.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to an assault that occurred in the Friday Harbor area. The reporting deputy contacted the involved parties and it was determined that no assault occurred. The involved parties were advised not to contact each other.

• A deputy stopped a vehicle that had a defective headlight. The driver had a suspended driver’s license in the third degree. The driver received a criminal citation and a promise to appear in court.

• A deputy responded to a verbal domestic in Friday Harbor. Upon arrival the complainant advised his new tenants were drunk and belligerent and wanted them to stop making noise or leave. The two drunk subjects agreed to be calm and go to bed. The complainant agreed to call back if he needed to.

• Reporting party wasn’t sure what she needed to do after accidentally hitting a small dog. She stated she had contacted the owner and provided the owner with her contact info.

April 26

• The reporting deputy was contacted by the WSF in reference to ongoing Vandalism. One of the ferries is being “tagged” on a regular basis. Investigation continues.

• A Lopez deputy was called to investigate a motorcycle crash on Mud Bay Rd. The operator crashed the BMW motorcycle while trying to avoid a deer that had run out into his path. The operator suffered a non life threatening injury requiring a hospital visit. No citation was issued.

• A deputy responded to a motor vehicle accident around Eastsound. There was no driver located at the scene. The vehicle was discovered to be a moped and was impounded for safekeeping.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to help herd four cows off the road after a driver nearly struck them. The cows were returned home and the owner advised.
