Aug. 17

  • Deputies responded to a hit-and-run in Eastsound. When deputies arrived they discovered there was minimal property damage to property and were unable to locate the responsible person.
  • Deputies responded to apartments in Eastsound referencing a domestic violence incident. When deputies arrived the parties involved had left the area. During the course of the investigation it was determined that there were no injuries, it was a verbal disagreement only.
  • A Lopez Island deputy was sent to Richardson Road near Davis Bay because of a report of an injured deer. Evidence of a deer being struck by a car was found, but the deer was not found.
  • A deputy was dispatched to a hit-and-run traffic collision of an unattended vehicle in Friday Harbor. The incident had happened the previous day and there are no suspects at this time.
  • A Lopez Island deputy investigated a minor two vehicle collision that occurred on Fisherman Bay Road in front of the Lopez Island Library. A British Columbia man was cited for unsafe backing after he backed up in traffic, striking the vehicle behind him after he missed the library driveway.
  • A patrolling Lopez Island deputy came upon an unoccupied vehicle parked in the middle of the road with its hazard lights on. The driver returned shortly after the deputy arrived, stating that he “was only going to be a minute.” The driver was warned, and immediately moved the car.
  • A deputy was dispatched to an Eastsound address regarding to a domestic violence order violation and and a report that a domestic assault that occurred that morning. The suspect was not on scene and not found at know locations.

Aug. 18

  • An Orcas deputy discovered a subject sleeping in a vehicle at San Juan County Land Bank’s Crescent Beach Preserve property. The occupant was cited and educated about illegal camping.
  • San Juan County jail inmate showed emotional distress, a Compass Health designated mental health professional was called. After speaking with the mental health professional, the resident was moved to a mental health center on the mainland.
  • A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report that someone unlawfully entered into a residence but it did not appear that anything had been stolen.
  • A deputy was dispatched to a verbal domestic dispute in Friday Harbor. Both parties agreed to separate for the evening.
  • A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a domestic dispute. The investigation showed that a couple was having a verbal argument. One of the people involved wished to leave the residence and the deputy assisted them with a ride to a friend’s house.
  • A deputy in Friday Harbor stopped a driver for a traffic violation. An investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest.
  • A deputy initiated a traffic stop in Friday Harbor and the driver was issued an infraction for cell phone use while driving.

Aug. 19

  • A Lopez deputy collected found property from a local business and the owner was contacted. Arrangements are being made to return the property.
  • An Orcas deputy initiated a traffic stop on a driver for speeding. The driver was cited for 56 mph in a 40 mph zone.
  • An Orcas deputy was contacted by a citizen who found money on a local beach. The money was collected and booked into the Orcas substation property room. A report was taken.
  • Deputies were dispatched to an attempted suicide. The subject was contacted, taken into mental health custody and transported to Peace Island emergency room for treatment and evaluation.
  • Lopez deputies were dispatched to a report of threats made against fire personnel on an illegal burn investigation. The subject was contacted and warned about firefighter jurisdiction and threatening public servants.
  • A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a domestic dispute. An investigation showed that it was just a verbal argument between two people.
  • U.S. Customs and Border Control reported a subject boarded the Washington State Ferry in Sidney, British Columbia and he had an active felony warrant. Deputies met the subject in Friday Harbor
  • and he was placed under arrest and booked into the holding facility.
  • A deputy was on foot patrol in the Friday Harbor area when he observed a subject with an outstanding District Court warrant. The subject was taken into custody and booked on the warrant.

Aug 20

  • A Lopez woman reported a vehicle traveling very fast on Center Road. She believed they were trying to catch an early morning ferry. The offending driver was not located by the responding deputy.
  • A Lopez deputy was called regarding suspicious activity in Lopez Village. The people involved were vendors preparing to get their booth set up at the farmer’s market. No further action was necessary.
  • A deputy was dispatched to a theft that occurred two weeks ago in Friday Harbor.
  • A deputy was dispatched to vandalism in Friday Harbor. Two political party booths were vandalized.
  • Deputies were flagged down by a citizen referencing a found lost phone. The phone was placed into safekeeping.
  • Deputies were dispatched to an Eastsound address in reference to a violation of a court order. During the investigation it was determined a violation didn’t occur. An informational report was completed.
  • A resident of Eastsound located found property located in the downtown Eastsound area. The property was placed into safekeeping.
  • A boater reported his crab pots were stolen off San Juan Island. The pots were recovered in the location he left them. It is believed that the water current had swept away the marker buoy.
  • Lopez deputies responded to the Cape Saint Mary Road area for a noise complaint. Upon a search of the area, deputies were unable to locate the source of the noise.
  • Lopez deputies conducted a traffic stop along Mud Bay Road. An Oregon man was cited for speeding.
  • Lopez deputies responded to a noise complaint at a local business. Upon arrival the staff was in the process of closing doors and music was being played at a reasonable volume.
  • A Lopez deputy assisted a couple from Hawaii in recovering their car keys which had been misplaced.

Aug. 21

  • A Lopez Island man reported that his vehicle had been vandalized while parked at an island business. A report was taken, and the case remains under investigation.
  • A Friday Harbor resident visited the sheriff’s office to report the theft of his mountain bike from his yard, sometime between 10 p.m. Saturday night and 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. There are no suspects. The bike was entered into the stolen file. Deputies will watch for the bike.

Aug. 22

  • A Lopez deputy was called to the post office after an unknown person deposited a full sharps container of medical waste in the outgoing mail depository. The sharps container was taken by the deputy for proper disposal.
  • A Lopez deputy received information that children had set up a fruit stand at the intersection of Mud Bay and Cousins Road South, creating a traffic hazard. The children, with a parent, were contacted and asked to move to a safer location.
  • A Lopez deputy was called on a report of fresh graffiti on a Lopez Island commercial building. The graffiti was photographed and a report was taken.
  • Deputies responded to a report of a car blocking a commercial driveway in Friday Harbor. The owner could not be located and after waiting more than an hour the car was impounded and taken to Island Towing.
  • Deputies responded to a report of a problem with a juvenile on Orcas Island. After further investigation the incident was settled by contact.
  • Lopez deputies were dispatched to conduct a welfare check on a female subject reportedly shouting about a medical emergency. The subject was located and determined not to be suffering any medical condition.
  • A driver’s license was found at the San Juan County Fair and turned in to dispatch. Deputies confirmed the address through the Department of Licensing and have mailed the license to the owner.
  • Deputies responded to a reported assault in Eastsound. It was discovered that a male had violated a restraining order, by entering a female’s residence and had physically assaulted her. The male was later located, arrested and booked into jail.

Aug. 23

  • Deputies responded to a domestic violence call in the area of Eagle Cove Road on San Juan Island. One of the parties was injured and after a brief search the suspect was arrested for assault and interfering with domestic violence reporting.
  • Deputies responded to the animal shelter in reference to an Eastsound resident locating a dog at large. The dog was reunited with its owner.
  • A Lopez deputy was called regarding a near collision between a bicyclist and a farm tractor that pulled out of a driveway into the cyclist’s path. The tractor operator was contacted and he acknowledged the bicycle was traveling faster than he expected.
  • An Orcas man reported suspected theft activity on the island.

Aug. 24

  • A deputy stopped a driver for speeding. The driver did not have a driver’s license or insurance and was not willing to move the vehicle to the area requested. The vehicle was impounded and infractions were issued to the driver.
