Severe weather shelter opens soon

Submitted by Winnie Brumsickle

Severe Weather Shelter Coordinator

Together with United Way of SJC and other supporters, “Out of the Cold” Friday Harbor Severe Weather Shelter will continue another season of providing overnight shelter to vulnerable people in Friday Harbor during periods of extremely cold weather, effective on approximately Nov. 18, 2020 through March 8, 2021.

FHSWS operates a temporary shelter for families and individuals at Islands Community Church, our primary supporting facility. We have one goal: To operate a COVID-safe, cost-effective response to severe weather difficulties experienced by our own vulnerable population, which ultimately benefits everyone in our community. Friday Harbor residents and volunteers generously support this seasonal program.

Anyone seeking shelter can call 360-298-9301 for current status and to leave a message for Shelter Coordinator Winnie Brumsickle. Would you like to volunteer? Please leave a message on the shelter line.

We hope this is good news for everyone, as we work together to shelter our friends and neighbors here in Friday Harbor!
