San Juan islanders gather at each ferry terminal for May Day, International Workers’ Day

Submitted by event organizers

On May 1, Indivisible San Juan Islands organized an event where islanders from each of the islands organized at their ferry terminals. The local group organized in sync with nationwide movements for International Workers’ Day, a public holiday in most countries.

“We chanted, we greeted ferry workers, brought them homemade warm cookies, and even had music and huge bubbles blowing,” one attendee said.

The aim was to celebrate the achievements of the labor movement, and continue to gather to stand for Democracy and oppose the current administration’s attacks on working people. The group at Friday Harbor even brought warm homemade cookies to the ferry workers. Their next event is planned for June 14 to celebrate “OUR” Flag Day, with a massive community potluck out front of the courthouse.
