San Juan Engagements: Carrie Burke and Juan Upingco

Roy and Janie Burke of Friday Harbor are excited to announce the engagement of their daughter, Carrie Burke, to Juan Unpingco. Carrie, 24, was born and raised in Leavenworth, Wash., where she graduated from Cascade High School. Carrie went on to attend Central Washington University, where she met Juan. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in community health. She now works here on San Juan Island at Inter Island Medical Center.

Roy and Janie Burke of Friday Harbor are excited to announce the engagement of their daughter, Carrie Burke, to Juan Unpingco.

Carrie, 24, was born and raised in Leavenworth, Wash., where she graduated from Cascade High School. Carrie went on to attend Central Washington University, where she met Juan.

She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in community health. She now works here on San Juan Island at Inter Island Medical Center as coordinator of the San Juan County Telepsychiatry Project.

Juan, 25, is the son of Juan and Tina Unpingco of Oak Harbor, Wash. Juan was born in Monterey, Calif., but grew up all over the United States and Japan as his dad was in the Navy.

Juan graduated from Oak Harbor High School and went on to obtain a bachelor of science degree in community health from Central Washington University.

After graduating, Carrie and Juan moved to San Juan Island. Juan works at Inter Island Medical Center as the front desk receptionist, where he will always greet you with a smile.

Juan proposed to Carrie on May 17, 2008 at the top of Mount Constitution on Orcas Island.

Carrie and Juan live in Friday Harbor and are planning an Aug. 1, 2009 wedding on the island.
