Pat O’Day, Chairman, has announced a one year postponement of this annual fund raising event. O’Day says, “The Board must do some diligent re-planning of the tournament as the costs have risen to an extent leaving little money for the nonprofits, the sole reason for which the event is held.”

“The Classic, which over the pasts years has attracted so many figureheads from sports, music, radio, t.v, newspaper, writers and film producers, is truly an island fixture, and as such, it will be fixed.” O’Day said. Those rising costs include the giant tents for dinner, celebrity overnight accommodations, transportation, Golf Course rental and costs of presenting the big salmon dinner along with some administrative expenses.

O’Day and the Board want to thank Islander’s Bank, King’s Market and the many others who’ve been loyal supporters and major sponsors over the yeas and hope they will still be involved when the Board Brings forth a new plan.

Over the years this event has allowed young and old of the island to meet such starts and Edgar Martinez, Slick Watts, Sonny Sixkiller, Chip Hanauer, Merillee Rush ,and the late Done James, to name just a few. The Board is committed to re-starting the event and bringing more starts of today and tomorrow to the island to meet everyone. This however, will only occur once it’s been determined how to deliver a majority of revenues with bigger checks to our islands non-profits.
