Rude awakening, drivers endangered by deer, family fisticuffs lead to arrest; San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

Oct. 11: A 25-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested for assaulting family members and a responding deputy in a domestic violence call on rural San Juan Island.

Oct. 1: A San Juan Island man reported vandalism to his well and pumphouse.

A 36-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested for violation of a protection order.

Oct. 2: A Lopez woman reported the theft of money from her job site.

• An Eastsound business reported that a padlock to their gate had been damaged, requiring replacement.

Oct. 3: A traffic stop in Eastsound resulted in the driver, a 21-year-old Eastsound woman, being arrested for driving while suspended or revoked, and an outstanding San Juan District Court warrant for failure to appear.

An 18-year-old Friday Harbor man escaped injury in a single vehicle crash at San Juan Valley and Wold roads.

Oct. 4: An Eastsound woman reported the theft of two plants from her landscaping.

A Lopez man reported the theft of several items taken from his car.

A 35-year-old Indiana man became separated from his party while hiking on Mount Constitution. A search by deputies, Orcas Fire and state Park Rangers quickly found the man safe and reunited him with his friends.

Oct. 6: A Rosario area resident reported finding fresh fingerprints on the windows of his home.

A Friday Harbor woman reported the violation of a protection order.

A Friday Harbor woman reported fraudulent use of her credit card.

A 12-year-old Friday Harbor girl was bitten by a dog that came out into the street and nipped at her as she walked through the neighborhood with her friends.

A late-night single vehicle crash on Lopez Island damaged the guardrail on Center Road at Richardson Road. The driver fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Oct. 7: A single vehicle crash on Douglas Road just south of San Juan Valley Road damaged a utility pole. The driver, a 52-year-old California man was uninjured in the crash, which he attributed to swerving to avoid a deer.

Oct. 8: A  Friday Harbor woman was awakened by a man banging on her door, looking for her roommate. Entry was not gained, and the man departed before deputies arrived.

• A bicycle found along Beaverton Valley Road was turned into the sheriff’s office, and later claimed by its owner.

• Deputies responded to keep the peace after a dispute between two men over money owed in an Eastsound establishment.

Oct. 9: A Lopez man reported the theft of a parcel that had been delivered and left by his mailbox at the south end.

Oct. 10: A 41-year-old Lopez woman escaped injury when she drove off Fisherman Bay Rd avoiding a deer. The car was stuck, but once removed from the ditch was undamaged.

• A woman reported being offered methamphetamine at Crescent Beach on Orcas Island. The suspect was located, interviewed, and allowed deputies to search him and his vehicle. No drugs were found.

• A runaway Friday Harbor girl was located and returned.

• The guardrail at Mount Baker and Terrell Beach roads on Orcas Island was damaged in a hit-and-run crash.

Oct. 11: Lopez deputies responded to a domestic dispute. The parties were arguing over a cell-phone.

• A Deer Harbor man reported a trespasser in his back yard. The man was contacted, and asked to leave.

• An Eastsound man reported the theft of his backpack from the Orcas Library. He left the backpack briefly to use the restroom, and when he returned it was gone.

• Two vehicles were “keyed” at the Orcas High School Homecoming game, including the Friday Harbor High School bus.

• A 25-year-old Friday Harbor man was arrested for assaulting family members and a responding deputy in a domestic violence call on rural San Juan Island.

Oct. 13: A 42-year-old Friday Harbor man was cited for DWLS and traffic infractions in connection with an auto vs. bicycle collision at Tucker Avenue and Larson Street. The cyclist suffered scratches and bruises in the collision, but was not seriously hurt.
