Jawaad Reaves pleaded innocent Friday to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of his brother, Jermaine.

Superior Court Judge John O. Linde scheduled trial for Feb. 9. Bail was reduced from $100,000 to $50,000.

Reaves posted bail Saturday and was released from Island County Jail. His employer, Miller Drywall, said he was back at work Monday.

Court-imposed conditions of his release: Abstain from alcohol, live in his uncle’s home, maintain a job, be home between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., and not leave Washington without court approval.

Reaves, 21, is accused of fatally shooting his brother Sept. 28 in their apartment on the 500 block of Tucker Avenue. Officers went to the scene in response to a domestic violence report. When they arrived, they were met in the parking lot by Reaves.

In the apartment at the time were the Reaves’ mother and a friend. The brothers lived together in the apartment, Sheriff Bill Cumming said. Also found in the apartment: A 20-gauge shotgun.

Reaves’ attorney is Bill Jaquette of the Snohomish County Public Defender’s Office.
