Obituaries | Carl Angelo Perovich, 1942-2008

Carl Angelo Perovich of Friday Harbor, Wash., died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 26, 2008 in Friday Harbor.

He was 65.

He was born July 1, 1942 in Tacoma, Wash., the son of Angelo and Ragna Dorthe (Nielsen) Perovich.

Carl was a lifelong commercial fisherman. He started his career as a teenager in Friday Harbor on salmon boats and retired as a captain on commercial factory ships. He enjoyed sailing, photography, sports car racing and traveling.

Carl will be missed by his brothers and sisters, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo Perovich and Dorthe Mentz; stepfather, Edward G. Mentz; and sisters, Natalie Carter and Lissa B. Huntoon.

He is survived by his brother, Edward R. Mentz of Medford, N.Y., and Kristen Mentz of New York, N.Y.; and sisters, Antoinette Piekunka of Palm Coast, Fla., Vicki J. Mentz of Newport News, Va., and Ida L. Horne of Metter, Ga.

Cremation was private with family members attending; a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
