San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:
March 12: Four men who reportedly tried to manufactured a weapon while sharing a jail cell at the Sheriff’s office in Friday Harbor could face felony charges. Officers reportedly entered the cell and confiscated a so-called weapon, which was unidentified in the incident report, after viewing suspicious activity on the cell’s security camera.
— A warrant led to the mid-afternoon arrest of a San Juan Island man in the rear parking lot of a Spring Street medical center. The 45-year-old, who allegedly had marijuana, paraphernalia and black tar heroin in his possession at the time of the arrest, was reportedly passed out behind the wheel of a Honda sedan at the time. He was taken into custody shortly after 2 p.m.
March 14: An Orcas Island man was arrested for DUI following a single-car mid-morning mishap in the 1800 block of Orcas Road. The 55-year-old, who’s sedan reportedly drifted off the road and over an embankment, was taken into custody at about 10:30 a.m.
— Failure to buckle up led to the late night arrest of a San Juan Island woman for driving with a suspended license. The 27-year-old, who was pulled over near the intersection of Argyle Avenue and Spring Street, was taken into custody at about 11:30 p.m. She was also ticketed for driving without proof of insurance and for driving without a safety belt.
March 18: Fears over an apparent six-pack of beer stashed behind the pump house of Lopez Island’s Port Stanley School proved partly unfounded, as authorities discovered that all six bottles had been emptied. Someone reportedly had screwed the lids back on the bottles creating the appearance that they were full.
March 20: A familiar face and blemished driving record led to the arrest of an Orcas Island for driving with a suspended license. The 37-year-old, reportedly recognized by a deputy on patrol, was apprehended near the intersection of Orcas and Rosario roads at about 2:30 p.m. She was ticketed for driving without proof of insurance as well.
March 21: A Friday Harbor man claims someone used his wife’s missing bank card to purchase $1,000 of beauty products in an apparent case of fraud. The card was used online on three separate occasions, beginning the week after it reportedly went missing, to purchase products from Avon and HyperStreet
March 22: A Lopez Island man claims his chicken coop was damaged by several people who went onto his rental property on Lopez Hill Road without permission. The 70-year-old’s claims proved partially unfounded, as the two people accused of trespassing were asked by the man’s tenant for help in freeing an eagle that was entangled and trapped in netting above the coop.
March 23: An Orcas Island man traveling in the 200 block of Orcas Road accidently ran over an abandoned black nylon bag that apparently belongs to someone in the business of dealing drugs. The contents of the bag reportedly include about 60 pills of Oxycodone, half of which were in pieces following the collision, four plastic baggies containing a modest amount of marijuana, an electronic scale and charger and numerous shards of broken plastic containers.
— An 18-year-old San Juan Island man and passenger escaped a single-car collision without injury after the man struck a deer near the intersection of Bailer Hill and False Bay roads. The condition of the deer was unlisted in the incident report. The driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle while attempting to avoid the deer and careened off the roadway and through a barbed wire fence.
— An Orcas Island man was issued a ticket and given a warning following a late afternoon traffic stop on North Beach Road in which he reportedly became hostile. The 68-year-old was pulled over shortly before 6 p.m. for failing to use his turn signal, for which he received a warning. He was ticketed for driving without proof of insurance.
March 25: A Volkswagen sedan sustained $1,500 of damage while its owner was dining at a Friday Harbor restaurant in an apparent hit-and-run. The front bumper, grill, hood and headlights of the sedan were smashed and mangled by a driver who allegedly fled the scene while the owner of the crunched car dined at a Nichols Street eatery.
— A vintage motor home belonging to a San Juan Island man disappeared from the location where it had been parked and was listed for sale in an apparent case of theft. The 32-year-old reportedly believed that a dispute between he and the owner of the property where it was parked, near the intersection of Roche Harbor and University roads, had resolved their differences.
— Excessive speed led to the arrest of a San Juan Island woman for DUI following a late afternoon traffic stop near the intersection of Cattle Point Road and Garry Oak Lane. The 31-year-old, who reportedly was traveling 60 mph in a 45-mph zone, was taken into custody at about 5:30 p.m.
March 26: A tip from a passerby led to the arrest of a San Juan Island woman for DUI after she apparently drifted off the road not far from her Bailer Road home. The 67-year-old’s blood-acohol level was reportedly more than three times the legal about 30 minutes after she was removed from behind the wheel of her Pontiac sedan and taken into custody, at about 7 p.m.
March 28: A Friday Harbor woman claims she was duped by a company offering to modify her home loan and then swindle out of $900. The 42-year-old reportedly sent the company, Home Owner Protection Economics, a check in mid-March and has to receive any loan-related paperwork or a response from the company despite her numerous telephone calls.
March 29: An Orcas Island man faces a charge of misdemeanor assault following an early evening altercation with an ex-girlfriend at his Pine Street home. The 29-year was arrested and taken into custody at his home shortly before 10 p.m.
