What merits a call to the Sheriff’s Office/dispatch? Here’s some info for those who may be confused about what constitutes a call to dispatch.
Recently, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Council member Jane Fuller regarding the picnic table being returned to the Weeks Point Way road end. She also expressed that some Lopez community members may not know what merits a call to the Sheriff’s Office/dispatch, so Sheriff Eric Peter shared some info for those who may fall into this group.
1. If you observe, hear or believe there is an emergency occurring, then please call 9-1-1.
2. If you observed, heard of or believe there may be a non-emergency occurring or has already occurred, then please call the dispatch non-emergency number at 360-378-4151.
As for the complaints of alleged violations or suspicious activity occurring at the picnic table area at Weeks Point Way Road end/PW property, the same info above applies.
Deputies will respond, and the response will be determined by the order of priority of the calls holding at any given time. As always, deputies will try to reconcile what’s being reported with what’s actually observed and will decide whether law enforcement action is needed based on the totality of the circumstances reported/observed. If no law enforcement actions are taken, the deputies should explain why no law enforcement action can be taken.
