LWV sponsors Mayoral race voter forum

Submitted by the League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters of the San Juans, a non-partisan, non-profit organization, is sponsoring a voter forum for Friday Harbor and county residents to get to know the mayoral candidates on the ballot for the August primary election. The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, at 5 p.m. at the Grange. Although only Friday Harbor residents are eligible to vote in the mayoral race, the League welcomes participation from all county residents.

The four mayoral candidates who will be participating in the forum are Pam Hoke, Emilio Santiago, Ray Jackson, and Evan Perrollaz. Note that although her name remains on the ballot, Tanja Williamson has withdrawn from the race.

The primary election is August 5, and the San Juan County Elections Office will be mailing the voter information booklet out the week of July 14. Ballots will be mailed to Friday Harbor registered voters on July 24.

The voter forum is a moderated event during which candidates will present introductory statements and respond to questions, within time limits. The League of Women Voters requires civil discourse in forums, and all questions to candidates must meet that requirement.

Community members who wish to ask questions of candidates but cannot attend in person may email their questions in advance of the forums to the League at pres.lwvsji@gmail.com. Please keep questions as succinct as possible. Also note that questions may be combined or edited.
