Local bar association elects officers, honors contributions

At the association's annual meeting in December, San Juan Island's John Chessell was elected to a third term as president, and Stephen Brandli of Friday Harbor was re-elected treasurer.

The 43-member San Juan County Bar Association held its annual meeting and luncheon in Friday Harbor Dec. 12.

San Juan Island’s John Chessell was elected to a third term as president, and Stephen Brandli of Friday Harbor was re-elected treasurer.

Friday Harbor’s Kathryn Loring, Thomas Fiscus of Orcas Island and (non-member) Lawrence Delay of Friday Harbor were recognized for contributions to the bench in 2014.

Douglas Strandberg and Karen Vedder of Friday Harbor were recognized for their help in preparing a legal education seminar in late 2013 on behalf of the San Juan County Land Bank and San Juan Preservation Trust.

Friday Harbor’s Carla Higginson was recognized for continuing dedication to the high school “Moot Court” program. Brandli was recognized for continuing participation in the association.

A special vote of thanks was commended upon Brandli’s office manager and legal secretary, B.J. Brandli, for pro bono administration of SJCBA’s financial records.
