Let the sunshine: 4-course dinner featured in benefit for schools solar project

San Juan Islands Conversation will host a dinner, auction and fundraiser to benefit the Community Solar for Our Schools project Dec. 5 in Friday Harbor.

The benefit includes a four-course dinner, live music and creative auction items crafted by islanders (check out auction items on the Conservation District’s Facebook page), and will be hosted by Brickworks, 120 Nichols Street, in Friday Harbor.

Spearheaded by the Conservation District and endorsed by local school superintendents, Solar for Our Schools seeks to provide solar-electric systems to local school districts, as well as solar-power-themed curriculum, in effort to boost student understanding of the renewable resource and reducing the schools utility costs. The project also offer incentives to contributors.

The dinner and auction is part of a fundraising effort in which the Conservation District seeks to meet a $10,250 matching contribution offered by Orcas Island’s Oddfellows.
