League of Women Voters of SJI Sponsors General Election Voter Forums

Submitted by The League of Women Voters of the San Juans

The League of Women Voters of the San Juans, a non-partisan, non-profit organization, is pleased to sponsor three voter forums for islanders to hear from local candidates about local issues. The forums are designed to help voters to get to know the candidates for contested seats on each island. They are moderated events during which candidates will present introductory statements and respond to questions from the public, within announced time limits.

Lopez Forum: Tuesday, Oct. 3, 5:30 p.m. at the Grace Church Parish Hall. Candidates confirmed to attend and respond to questions are those for School Board Member #3. The League has also invited individuals who wrote the arguments for and against the Public Hospital District Proposition 1 to be available for questions from the public. Orcas Forum: Wednesday, Oct. 11, 5 p.m. at the Firehall. Candidates confirmed to attend and respond to questions are those for Fire Commissioners #2 and #3. The League has additionally invited authors of the arguments for and against the Fire Protection District 2 Proposition 1 to attend and respond to public questions.

SJI Forum: Thursday, Oct. 12, 5:30 p.m. at the Grange. Candidates expected to attend and respond to your questions are those for Town Council Member #2 and Fire Commissioner #3.

The election is on Nov. 7, and the San Juan County Elections Office will be mailing primary ballots to registered voters on Oct. 17. The League of Women Voters does not endorse any candidate running for an elected position and provides forums solely for the education of voters. Please note that the League of Women Voters requires civil discourse in forums, and all questions to candidates must meet that requirement.

The meetings will also be available via Zoom at:
