KIRO TV in Seattle reports that two Tulalip fishermen were rescued Monday morning after their gill netter sank off Salmon Bank, off the southern tip of San Juan Island.

They were rescued by Glen Gobin, a Tulalip Tribal Council member who was fishing nearby.

A year ago, on Aug. 28, 2009, the purse seiner Anna J rolled and sank off South Beach; six people were retrieved from the strait by nearby fishing vessels. Among the injured were skipper Charles Chevalier and crew member Nick Nash of San Juan Island.

On Aug. 29, 2007, the commercial fishing boat Esperanza capsized between South Beach and Grandma’s Cove. Four fishermen, from Everett, were rescued by another boat in the area.
