Island Rec. program closures

Submitted by San Juan Island Park and Recreation

The San Juan Island Park and Recreation District board of commissioners has decided to cancel all Island Rec programming until further notice, effective immediately. The only exception will be that our STAR after-school program will be available to families on Monday, March 16. We know many San Juan Island residents rely on Island Rec for daily fitness classes, after-school programs for their children, and enrichment opportunities. However, it is important to prioritize public safety at this time and help prevent community spread of COVID-19. All Island Rec programs and special events, regardless of location, have been canceled until further notice. Our parks will remain open and fully maintained for public use at this time, including Eddie & Friends Dog Park, Lafarge Open Space (“The Gravel Pit”), the Skate Park & Family Park at the Fairgrounds, and John O. Linde Community Park. We will be increasing the daily cleaning of our park facilities.

Our board and staff are monitoring this rapidly evolving situation and working closely with local partners to determine the best course of action moving forward. We will keep you informed, and we look forward to recreating with you again as soon as we can. Please be assured that our staff are actively planning for what will hopefully be a full summer of Island Rec programs!

If you are enrolled in one of our current or upcoming programs, Island Rec staff will be in touch regarding issuing you a full credit or refund. We know how important our programming is to many of you and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes. Thank you for your understanding.

The Island Rec staff is a small, hard-working team. For the safety of our staff, our office will close to the public at this time but will remain open for business via phone, email, and our website. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach us at 360-378-4953, or by email at admin@islandrec.org, Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For current information, you may also visit our website at www.islandrec.org.
