Island churches are celebrating Christmas with special services next week.
— Calvary Chapel: A special pre-Christmas service is scheduled Sunday, 10:30 a.m. At 4 p.m., the church will host a Christmas dinner that is open to the community.
Wednesday at 7 p.m., there will be a free viewing of the film, “The Nativity Story,” starring Keisha Castle-Hughes (“Whale Rider”) and directed by Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight”).
Thursday, there will be a Christmas Eve service at 6:30 p.m. in the San Juan Island Grange.

— Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church: Candlelight Christmas Eve service begins at 4:30 p.m. This service will include carols, readings, and a special time for children.

— St. David’s Episcopal Church: Christmas Eve service begins at 4:30 p.m., and will include a children’s pageant and Holy Eucharist.
At 10 p.m. Christmas Eve, the congregations of St. David’s and the Lutheran Church of the San Juans will come together at St. David’s for a traditional Festive Christmas Eucharist. The service will be led by the Rev. Doug Simonsen and Pastor John Lindsay. Guest musicians will join the choir of St. David’s for an evening of special music, hymns and carols.
On Christmas Day at 9 a.m., a simple spoken service with Holy Eucharist will be held.
