Three houses bound for settlement in the Phase 2 of Sun Rise neighborhood built by San Juan Community Home Trust were barged in late Wednesday, Aug. 19, through Jackson Beach.

The houses are all from the early 1900s, and were moved off of properties in Victoria, B.C., and will be sold to low and moderate-income homebuyers as permanently affordable homes.

According to Nancy DeVaux, executive director, the Home Trust Board decided to barge in existing homes to save materials and introduce craftsman quality to the neighborhood. There will be 12 houses total in the Phase 2 neighborhood off Grover St.

The houses will be transported over the LaFarge Open Space to their neighborhood where they will be positioned and settled.

Later this week a group of 35 cyclists with Bike and Build will be assisting the Home Trust with different house repairs. The cyclists have travelled from Portland and will end their trip in Bellingham.

Special thanks to Moses and his boat.
