The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Dec. 13

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving left of center. The driver was issued citations for driving left of center, for not having insurance, nor a driver’s license on their person.

Dec. 14

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. An individual was arrested and booked for felony harassment-domestic violence.

• A deputy on Orcas was assigned an assault complaint. The victim was contacted and questioned but did not wish to provide sufficient detail to develop probable cause for an assault charge.

Dec. 15

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a missing elderly person. San Juan Island Fire and Rescue responded to assist and located the individual with a thermal imaging camera on a drone. The individual was then transported to the hospital for treatment.

• On Lopez, a deputy issued a driver a citation for traveling 41 mph in a 25 mph zone on Fisherman Bay Road.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle at Mud Bay Road and Lopez Sound Road. The driver was subsequently issued a citation for not having a valid operator’s license with identification; additional warnings were also given.

• A San Juan deputy observed an individual driving without an ignition interlock, as required on their driver’s license, and sent a report to the prosecutor’s office.

• A deputy responded to a report of a non-injury collision on Lopez. There were no signs of the driver’s impairment, and the vehicle was removed from the ditch.

Dec. 16

• A set of keys were turned over to a deputy on Orcas. Since there was no way to identify the owner, the keys were booked into evidence as found property.

• A Lopez deputy responded when a man on Port Stanley Road walked onto his neighbor’s property, took a shovel and a bowl, and attempted to enter a shed structure. The matter is under investigation.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for failing to drive to the right of a roundabout and for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver was issued a citation for failing to drive right of a roundabout as well as additional warnings.

Dec. 17

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of a theft on San Juan. Two packages were taken from the front of a gate. The incident was captured on video and the person was identified and arrested for theft.

Dec. 18

• A Lopez driver was issued a citation for traveling 52 mph in a 35-mph zone on Mud Bay Road.

• Deputies received a report of mail theft on San Juan. The mail was found nearby and returned by a neighbor and, though the Christmas card was opened, nothing appeared to have been taken. No further information was available at the time.

• On San Juan, deputies received another report of mail theft. Someone took a package from a resident’s mailbox and tore it open, but the contents were still inside. It is unknown where the package was found but an unknown good Samaritan returned it.

• A Lopez resident called regarding a large amount of junk left behind by a former tenant. Since it is a civil issue, a courtesy report was completed.

• A San Juan County deputy received a report that island residents were scammed by a faith healer. The victims and suspects have yet to be positively identified.

• On San Juan, a deputy took a report of an assault. The reporting party did not wish to pursue criminal charges, and after an investigation, there was insufficient evidence to prove the suspect intended to harm the reporting party.

• A deputy on San Juan received a report that a package had been stolen. Currently, there are no suspects.

• Deputies responded to a report of a citizen dispute between a couple on San Juan. The individuals had been arguing on and off for a couple of days, no report of physical violence was made, and they agreed to sleep separately for the night.

Dec. 19

• A deputy on San Juan took another report of mail theft. The mail was located and returned to the owner by a good Samaritan after it was reported that the Christmas cards had been opened and a package was possibly missing.

Dec. 20

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of a domestic incident near Obstruction Pass. After a thorough search of the area, the suspect was not located. The case is ongoing.
