High winds today up to 35 mph and gusts of 50 mph

Winds southeast 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph are likely today. Winds may reach 30 to 45 mph with gusts as high as 65 mph on Tuesday. The strongest winds today are expected in the late morning and afternoon hours. Another period of possibly damaging winds are anticipated beginning Tuesday morning continuing into the afternoon.

The potential for strong and damaging winds will continue into Tuesday evening for those areas bordering the east entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Winds on Monday will be strong enough to snap small tree branches topple small or shallow rooted trees and cause local power outages. High winds candown trees, damage property and cause fairly widespread power outages.

A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph and/or gusts of 45 to 57 mph are likely or occurring. A high wind watch means there is the potential for a damaging wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph and/or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur.
