Weed pulling at SJI preserves

The Land Bank needs volunteers for manual removal of weeds on several preserves. This is not public access land, so volunteers will have a unique experience. Volunteers must RSVP as space is limited to eight people each day. Here are the volunteer opportunities:

Tuesday, July 26, Mt. Ben Preserve.

Thursday, July 28, Cady Mountain Preserve.

Tuesday, Aug. 2, Troutlake Preserve.

Thursday, Aug. 4, Cady Mountain Preserve.

Volunteers meet at the Land Bank office at 11 a.m. each day and carpool to the site and return by 4 p.m. each day.  Volunteers should bring gloves (tansy ragwort has toxic effects from long term exposure), wear sturdy hiking boots (this is largely off trail hiking), lunch and water.  The Land Bank provides some snacks, hand pruners, and some natural history of the preserves by Doug McCutcheon, San Juan preserve steward and leader of events.

Contact dougm@rockisland.com for questions or to RSVP for the events.

Trail work party

Islanders will gather on the Minnie Mae Trail for a work party on Monday, Aug. 1, 4 – 6 p.m.
