First Annual Inter-island Bocce Tournament

On Sunday, Sept. 24 - teams descended on Roche Harbor to participate in the First Annual Inter-island Bocce Tournament. Players from Bellingham, Lopez, Orcas, San Juan, and Stuart island enjoyed a sunny day while rolling balls, making friends, and enjoying all the wonder of being at Roche. Pairs were "blind drawn". The champion pair were Clay Lainson from Bellingham, and islander Nate Schons, of Island Hoppin Brewery. San Juan resident Ashley Palmer Sullivan teamed up with Bellingham's Tom McNutt (middle school with the F.H. class of 1977) took second place.

Thanks to Chicaoji of Lopez; Island Hoppin form Orcas Island; Nancy Wampler who reached out to players from San Juan and Stuart Islands; and Boccemon from Bellingham for spreading the word. A special thanks to Roche Harbor Resort for providing an excellent venue for enjoying the game of bocce, and many other things.

Organizers are hoping for “all-islander” teams for the 2017 tournament.
