Fireworks furor; miscellaneous medications and several speeders | SJC sheriff’s log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 7

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received some prescription medications from a citizen that had been left by another person. The deputy took the medication and booked it into evidence.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a motor vehicle collision in the downtown Eastsound area. The deputy learned it was a minor fender bender, and both drivers conducted an exchange of information. The incident was documented.

• San Juan Island deputies responded to a report of a sex offense. An investigation was initiated and is ongoing.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a report of traffic offenses in the West Sound and Deer Harbor areas. The Sheriff’s Office will conduct extra patrols and post a speed trailer in the reported area.

• A Lopez deputy conducted a traffic stop on Mud Bay Road. The driver was issued a criminal citation for driving with a suspended license in the third degree and an infraction for driving 55 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 40 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Mt. Baker Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.

Jan. 8

• A deputy on Orcas Island issued two notices of infraction for littering abandoned vehicles.

Jan. 9

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a safekeeping incident near downtown Eastsound. The citizen wanted the Sheriff’s Office to secure a firearm for safekeeping. The firearm was placed into the Sheriff’s Office property room until further notice.

Jan. 10

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an agency assist pertaining to a previous investigation. Evidence was collected, and the incident was documented.

• A Lopez driver, likely under the influence, drove into a group of mailboxes on Port Stanley Road.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 50 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.

• A Lopez resident reported fireworks near Aleck Bay Road. A local juvenile who lives nearby is likely involved.

Jan. 11

• Deputies on Orcas Island responded to a domestic dispute. One of the involved was arrested for harassment and domestic violence.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a citizen assist call; resources were provided.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. The reporting party was arrested for multiple out-of-county warrants and a local charge of malicious mischief in the third degree – domestic violence.

• Deputies on Orcas Island contacted individuals with an active warrant for their arrest. The individuals were arrested and transported to jail without incident.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of possible theft, and a report was completed.

Jan. 12

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a single-vehicle accident in the Town of Friday Harbor. A driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a building. The driver was taken into custody for DUI, driving while license suspended in the second degree and reckless driving. A report was completed.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to an agency assist. The incident was documented.

• Lopez Island deputies and Lopez Island Fire and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to an accident-injury. A passenger was airlifted for future care, and the driver of one of the vehicles was arrested for DUI and transported to the county holding facility.

Jan. 13

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Mud Bay Road and Islandale Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 53 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.
