Friday Harbor Athletic Association’s High School Lacrosse team is full of talent this season, according to their coaches.

“They’re a pretty talented group,” said Kaal Oldwyn, volunteer coach. “For not being a very experienced them they’re good with the ball and have some really good skills.”

The 21 player team has four seniors, two juniors, nine sophomores and six freshman.

The team hosted their first game at home at Carter Field on Saturday, March 12 against Shorecrest. Though they lost thirteen to four “overall they played really well,” said Oldwyn. The first half the team was down eight to one but was able to rally in the second half and score three more goals while only allowing Shorecrest to score once.

“We need to be a little more aggressive on offense,” said Oldwyn “As coaches we need to teach them plays that will allow better opportunities to score.”

All four goals were scored by Wade Swirtz, a sophomore who’s father Cliff Swirtz is the team’s head coach. Eric Dunaway, team goalie, also played an outstanding game, according to Oldwyn.

Bailey Hay and Adrian Hunte, who has only been playing the sport for a few weeks, both played well on defense against Shorecrest.

“As coaches we need to give them new plays on offense, teach them how to stay put on defense,” said Oldwyn “We need to get them ready because they already have the talent.”

The team’s next home game is at 1 p.m. on March 19 against Cascade High School.
