The San Juan County Sheriffs Department responded to the following calls.
Dec. 8
• An Orcas deputy took an incident report regarding a loud noise complaint and found no crime had been committed.
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. An involved party was experiencing a mental health crisis but refused the assistance offered by the deputies. Investigation revealed that the incident was verbal in nature and no crime was reported.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a threats call. Upon investigation, found no criminal activity.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a threats call near Eastsound. After investigation, it was determined that there was no crime committed.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a traffic violation call. A Lopez citizen reported witnessing the driver of a large truck driving dangerously and breaking traffic laws.
• A deputy was dispatched to a hit-and-run incident in the Friday Harbor area. The person calling said they had parked their vehicle for the day and when they returned noticed the vehicle had minor damage. There is no suspect information at this time.
• San Juan deputies located a subject with a felony warrant out of a different state. The subject was placed under arrest and booked into jail.
Dec. 9
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of fraud. No suspect information was obtained, and no loss was incurred by the victim.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 42 mph on Tucker Avenue. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and received multiple other warnings.
• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan for failing to drive to the right of a roundabout. The driver was given multiple warnings.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to an accident with injury: a passenger fell out of a vehicle on accident. Involved people were contacted and it was determined that no crime had been committed.
• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan because the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license-third degree and for operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device. The driver also received a citation for not having insurance.
• A San Juan deputy observed a driver who had a suspended driver’s license with an ignition interlock restriction. The driver was contacted later in the day and found no ignition interlock device in the vehicle. The report will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.
• A deputy on Orcas responded to a local business about a trespassing complaint. The suspect was gone upon arrival.
Dec. 10
• After investigating multiple thefts from businesses in the downtown Eastsound area, deputies located and arrested a suspect, and the stolen property was returned.
• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 47 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and a warning.
• A San Juan deputy conducted a traffic stop on Rouleau Road. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 55 mph in a 35 mph zone.
• Lopez deputies responded to a trouble unknown call following a 911 hang-up. Upon investigation, deputies determined the incident to be domestic and placed the aggressor under arrest for fourth-degree assault.
Dec. 11
• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover collision. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into jail.
• A Lopez deputy gave a driver a ticket for speeding on Dill Road. The citizen, who closely follows the sheriff’s log in the newspaper, expressed mixed feelings knowing they may be included in an upcoming release.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a trouble unknown call after a 911 hang-up. The deputy located the caller and discovered it was an elderly citizen seeking information about COVID-19. The citizen had already found the answers to their questions by the time the deputy arrived to check on them.
• A deputy took a report of stolen bales of hay on San Juan. A vehicle description was obtained, but there is no other suspect information at this time.
• A deputy on San Juan transported an in-custody individual to the hospital after being seen by EMS. It was determined by hospital staff that the individual did not need to be admitted and could return to jail.
• Deputies on Orcas responded to a domestic incident and found no crime had been committed.
Dec. 12
• EMS responded to the San Juan County jail for an inmate medical complaint. The person was evaluated and found to not need additional care.
• A Lopez resident called about a dog at-large. The owner was contacted and agreed to correct the issue.
• Along with Orcas Fire and Rescue units, deputies on Orcas responded to a reported injury collision. The driver left the scene, was later stopped, and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs.
• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 61 mph in a 40 miles per hour zone.
• A Lopez deputy responded to a hit-and-run collision at the ferry parking lot. The case is under investigation for additional charges as well.
• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling left of center, for a defective brake light, and for not wearing their seatbelt. The driver was issued citations for not having insurance and for not wearing a seatbelt.
Dec. 13
• On Lopez, a deputy responded to a report that the caller’s mailbox was damaged over the weekend. They said it appeared a car went into the ditch and hit his mailbox damaging the post. There are no witnesses to the incident.
• A deputy on Lopez was called to assist in contacting the owner of a vessel that had sunk while tied to a dock.
• A Lopez deputy was called about an apparently abandoned vehicle left along a road for the past three days. The vehicle was tagged for removal.
• A deputy responded to a fraud call near Eastsound. Their bank had notified them of the fraud and is handling the case.
• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision on Douglas Road. A Ford Super Duty (2002-2007) passenger side mirror and running board were located but the vehicle was not identified, nor are there any leads at this time.
• Deputies on San Juan responded to a single-vehicle accident. The vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was not on the scene when the deputies arrived. After an investigation, however, citations were written for wheels off the roadway and for going too fast for conditions.
Dec. 14
• A deputy on Lopez was contacted about a theft. The person said an ex-employee charged vehicle parts on their company account for a personal vehicle. Information was provided and the investigation continues.
• A local business on Orcas signed a trespass warning letter to have an individual notified to not come back on the property.
• In Friday Harbor, a deputy was dispatched to a welfare check. The person was contacted, requested medical assistance, and was then transported to the hospital where there was an additional incident.
• A deputy responded to a complaint of a disorderly person at the Lopez ferry terminal. Two individuals became verbally abusive after being told they would have to take a later ferry because they had no ticket. They subsequently apologized; the ferry employee declined pressing criminal charges.
