At the administrative headquarters of San Juan County, deputy director David Kelly is following in his boss’ footsteps—out the door.

On Thursday, Kelly, who joined the county’s administrative team almost two years ago, was selected by the city Council of Selah to be its new administrator. Kelly, 48, married and father of six, focused largely on finances, labor negotiations, and risk management in his capacity as deputy director of administration.

Earlier in May, Rose, hired in 2006 to be the county’s first permanent administrator in the home-rule charter era, announced he would be leaving San Juan County to become city manager of Lake Forest Park, a bedroom community of Seattle.

Located just north of the city of Yakima, Selah consists of 4.5 square miles and is home to 7,147 residents.
