Evaluators needed for FHHS student community projects

Friday Harbor High School is seeking volunteers to help evaluate projects and presentations of students in the Community Service-Learning Projects class.

With the semester soon coming to an end, Friday Harbor High School is seeking volunteers to help evaluate projects and presentations of students in the Community Service-Learning Projects class.

The class offers juniors a chance to explore their passions and strengths by designing and completing a project with a community partner that addresses an unmet need in the community.

On Jan. 15, students will give presentations demonstrating their accomplishments and what they’ve learned through their projects. Volunteers evaluate projects and presentations, and give feedback to the students.

This semester’s projects include painting a church, craft lessons at Life Care Center, running a weekly writer’s workshop at the middle school, sending care packages to an orphanage in Mexico, raising awareness and funding for our local animal organizations,  designing and building a “rocking whale” for the Whale Museum children’s playroom, just to name a few.

The high school is seeking 15 project evaluators; presentations will be Wednesday, Jan. 15, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Friday Harbor High. To volunteer, respond by email to Jenny Wilson, community service projects teacher, at Jennywilson@sjisd.wednet.edu.
