The Universal Declaration of Human Rights panel discussion series continues Sunday, Nov. 9, 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the San Juan Island Library. Topic: “Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.”

The discussion is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Friday Harbor group of Amnesty International, in conjunction with the Friends of the San Juan Island Library.

This is the third in a series of panel discussions devoted to “Human Rights in the Twenty-First Century” and in preparation for the celebration on Dec. 10 of the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly.

Participants in Sunday’s panel: Jack Cory, editor of The Island Guardian; Carolyn deRoos, attorney; Howard Rosenfeld, chairman of the San Juan County Council; Ann Spratt, Friday Harbor Middle School principal; and Janet Thomas, writer and author of “The Battle In Seattle.”
