San Juan Island’s Ron Stanger captured the enchanting image above with aid of a 1,000 mm telescope, solar filter and a Nikon Coopix camera. Stanger captured the Oct. 23 eclipse in a series of photographs taken shortly after 3 p.m.

The images clearly show several sunspots interacting with each other, Stanger said.
