1. Education and background: I received my BA in public policy from Evergreen State College. While at Evergreen, I was enrolled in a Master of Public Administration program. Some of the MPA classes I took included health care policy with Joan Bantz and the constructs of state government with state Sen. Karen Fraser, D-Olympia. I graduated with honors from the National School of Broadcasting in Seattle.

I have run for political office before and was the 1996 winner of the Republican primary for the state House of Representatives, 40th District. I have been active in state as well as county issues and feel that I am a good fit for the County Council during the next crucial years.

I have also helped with community dinners, including Thanksgiving dinners, and have been active with Relay for Life.

2. What priorities should determine where the island’s solid-waste transfer station will be located?

The priorities include contamination of water as well as surprising people with a brand new dump showing up in their neighborhood. I feel that the dump should stay where it is at.

3. What role, if any, should the county have with regard to affordable housing?
That is a tough question. The county does have some good affordable housing programs in place. It would be good to support those.

4. What changes, if any, would you like to see in ferry service to the San Juans?
If I am elected to the County Council, I plan to travel to Olympia to work on these crucial transportation issues as well as other issues important to San Juan County. I also would like to have a town hall meeting at the Grange or Mullis Community Senior Center to address these problems and concerns.

5. Are you satisfied with the progress of the pending replacement of the stretch of Cattle Point Road threatened by erosion?
Yes, I am satisfied with the progress on the Cattle Point Road that goes along the very beautiful South Beach.

6. Are you satisfied with the implementation of the county charter?
I would like to address this at another time. There are some things that I want to read first before I answer this question.

7. What issues do you think are unique to your district?
There are several issues. One issue is the possibility of the new dump being placed in the district that I am running for. There are three different locations in San Juan South, a new dump facility might be built. One thing I will do if I am elected is have a community forum just for the district that I am running for.
