The recent rain and forecast for more means the fire danger in San Juan County is now officially “Low”. The governor’s ban on outdoor fires throughout Western Washington has been rescinded; burn permits are now available.

Residential burn permits allow a single burn pile up to ten feet in diameter. The permit fee is $15. They can be obtained from your local Fire District or online at www.sjcfiremarshal.org. Residential burn permits will be valid through June 30, subject to changing weather conditions.

Open burning is not allowed within urban growth areas, which includes the Town of Friday Harbor, Eastsound and Lopez Village.
