Brothers battle, attorney charged with B.U.I., 30 gallons of gas disappear in apparent theft; San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:

April 23: Allegations of assault prompted the arrest of a 27-year-old Ballad man following an altercation with a Bothell woman at her family’s Lopez Island cabin.  The man allegedly slapped the 24-year-old woman in the face and busted up some of the fixtures and furnishings in the cabin in a fit of rage.

April 27: An Orcas Island man was arrested for DUI following an early evening single-car crash in the 200 block of Olga Road. The 23-year-old, who reportedly caused minor damage to his vehicle after driving it into a ditch, was taken into custody at about 9:30 p.m.

April 29: An Orcas Island man was issued a warning letter after his dog reportedly attacked a neighbor’s dog and bit its ear. The 30-year-old reportedly acknowledged that his dog, a pit bull-lab mix, was unrestrained and running loose in the Hemlock Street neighborhood at the time of the attack.

A San Juan Island man was arrested for DUI following late-morning collision with another driver in the 500 block of Tucker Avenue. The 60-year-old, who was taken into custody at about 11:30 a.m., reportedly blamed his erratic driving on a dose of prescription medication. He struck the vehicle of a 62-year-old man, who suffered minor injuries, after veering into the oncoming land of traffic.

Two front doors intended for the entryway of a Friday Harbor restaurant under remodel vanished in an apparent case of theft. The doors, valued together at $3,000, were last seen at the restaurant’s Front Street location two days before they disappeared.

May 1: Allegations of assault remain under investigation following a late-night altercation between two Orcas Island men employed at an Eastsound tavern. A 41-year-old man claims that a 29-year-old coworker hit him in the head and then tackled him for refusing to tell him who he had been talking with on the telephone. He had reportedly been chatting with the younger man’s girlfriend, who also works at the tavern, at the time.

A 73-year-old Orcas Island man faces charges of assault and interrupting a domestic violence report following an altercation with one of two female roommates with whom he shares an Obstruction Pass Road home. A 49-year-old woman reportedly was the victim of the alleged altercation.

May 3: An altercation between San Juan Island brothers prompted the arrest of the elder on a charge of misdemeanor assault. The 38-year-old was taken into custody at about 10:30 p.m. after returning to the Guard Street home where the assault allegedly occurred. His younger brother, 34, claims the elder instigated the fight.

May 5: A San Juan Island man with no known address was arrested and charged with trafficking in stolen goods. The 47-year-old allegedly attempted to sell stolen equipment belonging to a Friday Harbor rental shop.

An Orcas Island woman claims someone used her debit to make four unauthorized purchases totaling $795 in an apparent case of fraud. The card was cancelled by the bank that issued it and the 36-year-old expects to be reimbursed.

May 6: A Bellingham-based attorney was arrested on alcohol-related charges following a call from someone who reportedly saw him lying unconscious onboard the deck of a boat adrift near Orcas Island’s Obstruction Pass. Though the 51-year-old, who was taken into custody at about 5 p.m. and charged with boating-under-influence, refused a breathalyzer test, authorities obtained a search warrant allowing a sample of his blood to be drawn.

Allegations of assault led to the arrest of an Alaskan man who was lying unconscious on a Friday Harbor sidewalk at the time a deputy tracked him down. The 44-year-old, who allegedly punched a Friday Harbor man in the face during an altercation at the man’s Linder Street home, reportedly was intoxicated and passed out on a C Street sidewalk at about midnight.

May 7: Backing into a curb and erratic driving prompted the arrest of an Orcas Island man for DUI following a late-night traffic stop on Crescent Beach Road. The 32-year-old, who was pulled at about midnight, reportedly drew the attention of a deputy by striking a curb while backing out of the parking lot of an Eastsound grocery store, and then twice crossed over the center line after leaving the village.

A broken tail-light led to the arrest of an Orcas Island woman for driving with a suspended license following a early evening traffic stop on Crescent Beach Road. The 21-year-old who was pulled over and taken into custody at about 9:30 p.m.

May 12: A boat trailer belonging to a man with a home on Henry Island vanished from Roche Harbor Resort’s upper parking lot in apparent theft. The 80-year-old believes someone cut through a padlock that was attached to a chain, which secured the missing trailer to another trailer that was also parked in the lot. The trailer disappeared sometime within the last three weeks.

A warrant and a familiar led to a mid-afternoon arrest of a San Juan Island man near the intersection of Argyle Avenue and Nichols Street. The 50-year-old was taken into custody at about 3 p.m. by a deputy who was familiar both with the wanted man and the warrant.

May 13: A 15-year-old San Juan Island girl was arrested for allegedly shoplifting a 24-ounce fountain drink from a grocery store in Eastsound on Orcas Island. The girl was first confronted and then detained by an employee after she reportedly left the store without paying for the soda, valued at $1.19, at about 10:15 a.m.

About 30 gallons of gasoline disappeared from a rarely used motor home in an apparent theft at a Friday Harbor man’s Tucker Avenue home. Someone reportedly punched out the gas cap in order to siphon out the gas recreational vehicle, which parked behind the man’s home at the time of the alleged theft.

A San Juan Island man riding a motorcycle suffered back and leg injuries following an early morning collision with a deer near the intersection of Roche Harbor and West Valley roads. The 31-year-old was northbound on West Valley Road at about 7:30 a.m. when the collision occurred. The condition of the deer was unlisted.
