Bolshoi Ballet in HD to be shown at community theatre

Giselle touches upon the great romantic themes: a doomed love affair ending in tragedy, a dive into fantasy and ultimate redemption through the power of love.

Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet presents one of classical ballet’s oldest and most romantic pieces in the next HD production at San Juan Community Theatre on Monday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.

Giselle touches upon the great romantic themes: a doomed love affair ending in tragedy, a dive into fantasy and ultimate redemption through the power of love. The young peasant girl Giselle dies when she learns that the man she loves, Albrecht, has betrayed her.

Against her own will, she joins the wilis—vengeful spirits who now turn against Albrecht and condemn him to dance until he dies of exhaustion. The Bolshoi is renowned for its intimate and emotionally intense interpretation of this beloved drama.

In addition to the Bolshoi Ballet Only in Cinemas productions, SJCT also rebroadcasts operas from The Met: Live in HD and British theater from National Theatre Live. A schedule of the HD-live events is available at www.sjctheatre.org. SJCT’s partnership with all programs and the HD equipment to present them, was made possible through a generous bequest from the late Dodie Gann.

Tickets for the screening are $20 for adults, $18 for SJCT members and $10 for student reserved.  The SJCT box office (378-3210) is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are also available here.
