The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a 40-foot sailing vessel that sank Wednesday, Sept. 5 in Friday Harbor.

The vessel had been anchored for some time with no people reported aboard.

Members from the Island Oil Spill Association reported a marine diesel sheen from an estimated 20-gallon tank and have deployed a boom to contain the spill.

Sector Puget Sound Incident Management Division opened the Oil Spill Emergency Fund and contracted Global Diving and Salvage to secure the fuel tanks.

No responsible party has been identified as of Sept. 5. Those with information regarding this vessel should contact Petty Officer 3rd Class Ben Card at 206-391-4635.
