Bloodworks Northwest needs blood

Bloodworks Northwest issued a "code-red" appeal for donors after inventories for some blood types fell alarmingly — to just a one-day supply. Normal operating inventory is a four day supply. Blood donations this summer are down by about 25 percent. Summer is always a challenging time for blood collection. Donations are expected to fall by about 15 percent during summer — with schools and colleges on break, and donors on vacation. This year the drop-off has been much higher. The situation in the Northwest is part of a nationwide blood shortage. Help our community out this summer by giving at one of these blood drives if you are able to. Each donation makes a difference when levels are this low.
