Thank you islanders for supporting of the San Juan Islands blood drives!

Local blood drives reported:

Wednesday, Sept. 28: San Juan Island

· Registered a total of 87 whole blood donors and two platelet donors.

· Eight first-time-donors.

· Six donors for reached milestone gallon markers.

· Collected 76 units of whole blood and one platelet unit.

Thursday, September 29: Orcas Island

· Registered a total of 59 whole blood donors.

· Eleven first-time donors.

· One donor for reaching milestone gallon markers.

· Collected 48 units of whole blood.

Friday, Sept. 30: Lopez Island

· Registered a total of 32 whole blood donors.

· Welcomed three first-time-donors.

· Two donors for reached milestone gallon markers

· Collected 23 units of whole blood.

In total, the community’s efforts will benefit as many as 442 patients. On behalf of patients in the community’s hospitals, we wish to extend our thanks to you.

These are a few patients who recently received blood products from Bloodworks Northwest:

A 55-year-old patient with Mitochondrial trifunctional protein deficiency received: seven units of red blood cells, six units of plasma, two units of platelets and one unit of cryoprecipitate pools.

A 32-year-old patient with Obstetric Bleeding received: 10 units of red blood cells, six units of plasma, one unit of platelets and one unit of cryoprecipitate pools.

A 64-year-old patient having surgery received: 12 units of red blood cells, 12 units of plasma and two units of platelets.

A 46-year-old patient with a Gastrointestinal bleed received: two units of red blood cells, 10 units of plasma and one unit of cryoprecipitate pool.

Each day, 800 people are needed to donate enough blood to meet the needs of patients in hospitals. The blood drive played an important role in helping meet that goal.

Wednesday, Dec. 14 on San Juan Island; Thursday, Dec. 15 on Orcas; and Friday, Dec. 16 on Lopez.
