The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

April 10

• A deputy on Orcas was dispatched to an accident non-injury. There were no signs of intoxication and the registered owner was working on contacting help when the deputy arrived.

• A small number of bones were found on a San Juan beach and turned in to the Sheriff’s Office. It was unclear if they were human remains. Photos were sent to the state archeologist for determination, and the bones were packaged and booked into the property room.

• Lopez deputies and Lopez Island Fire & EMS were dispatched to a report of a woman in distress in her vehicle. Medical personnel evaluated the woman, who did not display any signs of impairment and provided assistance with returning her home.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a citizen dispute and noted that no crime had occurred.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a buried bag containing bones. Some of the bones were determined to be from a deer. Other bones, however, will require further examination to determine their origin.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a citizen assist. The reporting party requested documentation regarding his landlord having denied utility services.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of vandalism and documented the incident.

April 11

• A deputy on San Juan was contacted about a trespassing. A local entity was requesting a trespass warning letter be issued. The requested letter was completed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them a citation for speeding – 52 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a death investigation. The death was determined to be natural.

• Deputies were dispatched to a possible domestic incident in the San Juan area. Deputies arrived in the area and did not locate any signs of a problem.

April 12

• A deputy was dispatched to an order violation in the San Juan area. The deputy arrived and located the person on the property who was prohibited to be there by court order. The person was then arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Office.

• An Orcas deputy investigated a case of possible stolen gold coins. There are investigative leads, and the case remains open.

• Deputies were dispatched to a theft at a business in Friday Harbor. The deputy arrived and contacted the manager of the business. The manager requested a trespass warning letter be issued to the person involved. The letter was issued.

• A deputy was dispatched to a reported trespass on San Juan. The deputy contacted the person and served them with a trespass warning letter.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a trespassing call. All parties were contacted and it was determined to be a civil matter, a good-neighbor issue. No crime was committed.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a residential burglary complaint. The burglary complaint was determined to be unfounded. The incident involves an ongoing civil issue between a tenant and the property manager.

• On Orcas, a deputy conducted a traffic stop and cited the driver for speeding 56 mph in a 35 mph zone, for not having proof of liability insurance, for an expired registration over two months, and for not having a valid operator’s license with valid identification.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a call regarding an attempt to steal a dog from a vehicle. The incident had occurred a few days prior. The owner was encouraged to report the incident; however, they did not wish to pursue any further legal action.

• On Orcas, a deputy conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a warning for speeding and a criminal citation for driving with a suspended license-third degree.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a complaint of threats made on Orcas. After the involved parties were contacted, the deputy found insufficient evidence a crime was committed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 45 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone and issued them a citation for speeding.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision. The driver was arrested for DUI and their breath-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit to drive.

April 13

• A deputy responded, along with Orcas Fire and EMS personnel, to a report of an unconscious vehicle operator.

• On San Juan, a deputy was sent to a trespassing at a local business. The person involved was not currently at the business and a trespass warning letter was prepared for the trespasser.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a welfare check. The person, whose court-ordered conditions of release state he is not allowed to possess or consume alcohol, appeared intoxicated and refused to provide a portable breath sample. A report was forwarded to adult probation.

• A San Juan deputy was contacted about property found at a local business – a firearm left behind in a restroom. The firearm was turned over to the deputy and entered into evidence.

• A Lopez deputy and Lopez Island Fire & EMS were dispatched to a boating trauma ALS. The individual was airlifted to a higher level of care.

April 14

• A Friday Harbor part-time resident reported her cabin appeared to have been slept in. They reported nothing missing, no signs of forced entry, and nothing other than her bed, disturbed. The cabin is not a vacation rental and cannot be seen from the street.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle and issued them criminal citations for driving with a suspended license and for operating a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device, which they were required to have, and for not having insurance.

• On Orcas, a deputy conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy responded to a shoplifting complaint on Orcas. A juvenile suspect was identified and trespassed from the business at the business owner’s request.

• A citizen requested to have a person trespassed from a private road on Orcas. A trespass warning letter was drafted and signed by the complainant. When the report was filed, the subject of the trespass warning letter had not been served.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorcyclist and issued them citations for speeding 54 mph in a posted 35 mph zone, for not having insurance and not having a motorcycle endorsement on their driver’s license.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to report of a dog bite. The owner was issued a dog-at-large warning letter and a report was forwarded to the San Juan County Health Department.

• On Lopez, a deputy responded to a traffic offense.

April 15

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of threats and sent a report to the Prosecutor’s Office as the suspect committed the crime of harassment.

April 16

• A citizen on San Juan reported a potential fraud. The incident was linked to another case and is currently under investigation.

• The Sheriff’s Office on San Juan received a report that a resident of an assisted living community was violating the rules. Deputies responded and mediated the situation, and no further action was taken.

• A protection order was served electronically from San Juan to an Ohio resident.

• A deputy on San Juan received a report of an order violation and, after observing the violation, authored a report to send to the Prosecutor’s Office for charging.
