Sheryl Albritton has announced her candidacy for the upcoming November 2016 election for San Juan County Council Member from District. 1.

Sheryl hopes to bring transparency, fairness and fiscal responsibility to San Juan County. Her experience in public service and in identifying the current needs of the community are what have motivated her.

“We need sensible government that is open and makes decisions for everyone with a focus on making the San Juan Islands a place where families can build economically secure lives – any other approach is simply not sustainable. In order to bring about the necessary changes, council and staff must be accountable, answer citizens’ concerns with vigor and be trustworthy,” said Albritton.

Sheryl’s career began at the City of Marysville where she served as Public Works Secretary and Building Permit Clerk.  She went on to City of Mill Creek working in both the Public Works and Building departments where she was involved in special projects including assisting with surveying, transportation planning, park improvements, 911 readdressing and drafting.  Sheryl spent 9 years at Skagit County where she served as Permit Technician, Code Enforcement Technician, Fast Track Plans Examiner and Building Inspector.

She has served as President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Northwest Chapter of Building Officials, and was part of the group who formed the first chapter of Association of Permit Technicians helping lobby for the first national Permit Technician Certification through the International Code Council.

She is an ICC Certified Building Inspector and Permit Technician, and has extensive training in Wetland Science, Auto CAD and Geographical Information Systems. She left Skagit County in 2002 to consult privately full time and has helped thousands of applicants obtain permits. She is known for her lifelong pursuit for a code consistency, fairness and efficient government. She knows what is involved in being accountable to the public and focuses on simple solutions that work.

Sheryl spent her summers growing up all over the San Juans, and has resided with her husband, son and daughter on San Juan Island since 2012. Her husband was raised on Lopez, and is a contractor on San Juan.
