San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:
Aug. 1: Faulty reflectors led to the arrest of a San Juan Island woman for driving with a suspended license following mid-afternoon traffic stop near the intersection of Second and Spring streets. The 26-year-old, who was taken into custody at about 2 p.m., was also charged with driving a vehicle without a court-ordered ignition interlock device attached.
— Erratic driving and a tip from a concern driver prompted the arrest of a San Juan Island girl for DUI. The 16-year-old was pulled over near the intersection of Bailer Hill and Douglas roads and taken into custody shortly after 9 p.m.
Aug. 3: Deputies confiscated a human skull from a 19-year-old Orcas Island man who claims to have stumbled upon it while digging for arrowheads near property belonging to the Lummi Nation at Eastsound’s Madrona Point. The skull reportedly still had dirt embedded in it at the time it was seized by deputies. Madrona Point is reportedly the home of an ancient Lummi burial site.
— An early evening altercation at the home of an Orcas Island couple prompted the arrest of a 41-year-old man for misdemeanor assault. The man, who allegedly struck a 47-year-old woman, was taken into custody at the couple’s Cadden Lane home at about 7:30 p.m.
Aug. 5: A warrant issued in Everett led to the arrest of an Orcas Island man who had been loitering near an Engleharsten Road home, along with a friend and a dog that reportedly looked mean, and whose lingering presence prompted a call from the woman who lives at that home. The 29-year-old, who reportedly owes fines for violating of a no-contact order, was taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m.
Aug. 7: A $2,000 golf cart vanished from Orcas Island Gold Club in an apparent theft. Its keys were reportedly in the ignition at the time the golf cart disappeared.
— A warrant issued by the state Department of Corrections prompted a late-afternoon arrest of a Lopez Island man at his home on Lodgepole Lane. The 23-year-old was taken into custody at about 5:30 p.m. and then transported to sheriff’s headquarters in Friday Harbor.
Aug. 9: Failure to buckle up led to the arrest of a San Juan Island man for driving with a suspended license following a mid-morning traffic stop near the intersection of Second and West streets. The 62-year-old, who was also ticketed for not wearing a seat belt and for driving without proof of insurance, as taken into custody shortly after 10 a.m.
Aug. 10: A warrant issued in King County prompted the arrest of a Virginia man who suffered non-life threatening injuries in a motorcycle crash on Orcas Island. The 24-year-old, who was questioned by a deputy while being treated at the medical center in Eastsound, was taken into custody at about 8:30 p.m. A $2,500 had been issued for his arrest after the man reportedly failed to appear in a King County courtroom on a charge of DUI.
— A mid-afternoon fender bender prompted a pair of traffic tickets for an 87-year-old San Juan Island man who collided with an oncoming vehicle while exiting the parking lot of the Friday Harbor post office. The man, who was ticketed for failure to yield and for driving without a license or identification, reportedly struck the left-front quarter panel of an oncoming car while making a left turn onto Blair Avenue at about 1 p.m. The driver of the other vehicle, a 40-year-old woman, was treated for neck injuries following the crash.
— As many as 30 boxes containing yet-to-be-installed rain gutters vanished from the garage of an Orcas Island home in an apparent theft. The boxes reportedly vanished while the owner of the Spring Hill Road home was in the Midwest visiting relatives for about a month. The value of the missing rain gutters is roughly $1,500.
Aug. 11: Failure to buckle up led to the arrest of an Orcas Island man for DUI and for driving with a suspended license following an early evening traffic stop in Eastsound. The 23-year-old, who was pulled over in the 400 block of Pine Street at about 8 p.m., was also ticketed for not wearing a seat belt.
