A San Juan Island woman’s Toyota 4-Runner went off Turn Point Road and Harrison Street today at about 2 p.m., crashing into a truck parked in the Seattle Yacht Club parking lot below.

The woman, identified by Sheriff Bill Cumming as Anne Gutierrez, was taken by ambulance to Inter Island Medical Center. Witnesses said she had gotten out of her vehicle by herself and walked to the ambulance, though that could not be confirmed by authorities.

Cumming said Gutierrez is believed to have been alone in her vehicle when it crashed.

Skid marks indicated Gutierrez was driving on Turn Point Road toward Warbass Way when her vehicle veered off the roadway and into the parking lot below. Tire marks and dirt marred a light post near the driveway entrance; then, skid marks; then, the 4-Runner in the parking lot.

The owner of the parked truck, Seattle Yacht Club officer Dave Cable, was meeting with yacht club manager Jan Champlin when the crash occurred.

“It sounded to me like a truck had lost its load,” Champlin said.

The cause was under investigation today. More details will be published as the story develops.
