The New Originals Barbershop Quartet makes its SJ debut at the SJ Community Theatre on June 5

San Juan Island’s popular Barbershop Bonanza returns to San Juan Community Theatre’s Whittier stage, June 5, 2 p.m., with a young, award-winning quartet joining the festivities.

The New Originals, winners of the Evergreen District Quartet Championship in Portland, Ore., last fall, join the Bonanza lineup for the first time.

The Evergreen District encompasses men’s barbershop music and education groups throughout Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Alberta and British Columbia, Canada.

The New Originals features twins Ted and Turner Stiers, who have been “barbershopping” since the age of 11. Their father is also a former Evergreen champion. Tenor Joe McCorison and baritone Josh Honrud complete the quartet.

All members are from Northern Washington.

Also featured in the Bonanza is Bellingham’s men’s chorus, the Mount Baker Toppers, the San Juan’s women’s a cappella ensemble, Sounds Vibrations and Island Chordsmen Plus, San Juan’s mixed barbershop chorus.

The groups will perform medleys of contemporary and old-time favorites, including “Shenandoah” and “Nevertheless.”

The audience can attend the complimentary afterglow reception in the Gubelman Theatre after the show.

The Business Partner for Barbershop Bonanza is Salt Spray Window Cleaning.  All tickets are $18 with festival seating. The box office is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.   Tickets are also available on-line at www.sjctheatre.org.c
