The 13th annual Barbershop Bonanza to San Juan Community Theatre

The 13th annual Barbershop Bonanza comes to San Juan Community Theatre, June 5, 2 p.m.

There will be performances by New Originals, the 2010 Evergreen District barbershop quartet winners, the Mount Baker Toppers, Bellingham’s men’s chorus, Sound Vibrations, San Juan’s women’s a cappella ensemble and Island Chordsmen Plus, San Juan’s mixed barbershop chorus.

“We’re especially excited the New Originals will be here,” Island Chordsmen Plus president Dan Drath said. “Big award winners… Last year they won best quartet in the Pacific Northwest. They are younger guys, entertaining, clever, of course great voices. The audience will love them.”

Angel Michaels, who directs both the Chordsmen and Sound Vibrations, will lead the audience in a community sing.

“This show is always real family entertainment,” said Angel Michaels. “Upbeat music, lots of different groups and humor. We like a big, happy, smiling audience—that’s who we’re singing for.”

The groups will perform a medley of contemporary and old-time favorites of close harmony including “Shenandoah” and “Nevertheless.”

There will also be a few surprise songs that are less known.

The audience is invited to attend the complimentary afterglow reception in the Gubelman Theatre after the show.

Tickets, $18, are available from Dan Drath, 378-5646, Dick Saylor, 378-5090, and the SJC Theater, 378-3210.
