Celebrating the San Juan County Fair 2025, the San Juan Island Public Library exhibits a “Meet You At The Fair.” Visitors can enjoy the creations of local artists until Oct. 18. Keeping the fair spirit alive, the arts depict food, contests, ducks, pigs, cattle, quilts, clothing and weaving that were examined by judges. There is art of flowers, vegetables, the Trash N’ Fashion Show, 4-H projects, music, carnival rides and more!
Lyne McPherson’s collage keeps Trashion Fashion laughs a-coming, and Rachel Dietzman’s goat, Tamale, will greet you at the checkout desk. Above the magazines, “A Colorful Affair” by Kelli Grotle tours the fair activities in lush mixed media. If you love ponies, you may enjoy the Dick and Jane series original teacher’s print. Remember the photo booth where you got instant photos? Bonita Diemoz’s Four for $1 will bring a smile. Hopefully, you enjoyed the fair and are ready to relive it at the library! The library rooms are typically filled with art rendered in oil painting, textiles, photography, pencils, acrylic paint, cut paper and watercolor. The art displays showcase the incredible range of talent on the island. Come and see what is new for this show!
The shows are open to the public, and all talent levels are welcome. The Library Art Committee hangs five shows a year with themes varying from Life With Animals and Pets, to Bridges, Barns, Buildings, Art Quilts, Travel The World and In The Style of Great Artists. Participants bring their ready-to-hang or place-on-shelves art from 10 a.m. to noon on the designated Saturdays. Cards with the themes and dates are available at the computer table. The next hanging after this show will be on Oct. 18, featuring the theme “Of Ancestors & Descendants.” We look forward to your art in the upcoming show!
