Lake Dale marathon and triathlon events this Saturday

SJI Athletic events will host the annual Kings Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, 10K and Three Lakes Triathlon on Saturday, June 14.

This event will take place on our county roads between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and conclude approximately 3 p.m. at Lakedale.

Attention Drivers!

Expect to be sharing teh road with cyclists, runners, volunteers and race officials on Saturday, June 14 during the 22nd Annual Kings SJI Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k and the 12th Lakedale Three Lakes Triathlon will bring over 300 athletes, their friends and families to the Friday Harbor to challenge themselves swimming, biking, running and enjoy our island.

This year, the Olympic Triathlon cyclist group will be crossing the road to make left turns at three points between approximately 8:30 a.m. and noon.

1st, onto Beaverton Valley from Egg Lake Road,

2nd, onto West Side Road from Wold Road and

3rd, onto West Valley Road from Mitchell Bay Road.

To San Juan Island Drivers, We Ask;

Slow down and obey the posted speed limits and caution signs.

Yield to pedestrians, runners and cyclists when turning.

Use caution when passing Athlete Aid Stations.

Use extra caution when passing cyclists that are traveling on limited shoulders and limited view of oncoming traffic.

Pass cyclist safely by decreasing speed and allowing three feet of space when no oncoming traffic is present.

To Athletes We Ask;

Not to wear headphones; you need to be able to hear if a car is approaching.

Slow down and check for oncoming traffic before entering or crossing any street or intersection

Do your best to anticipate hazards and adjust your position in traffic accordingly.

Be predictable: ride with the flow of traffic and Run against traffic, and in a straight line
