The annual New Year’s Resolution 5K Run and Salish Splash was won in less than 20 minutes this year by Evan Simpson.

The race started at 10 a.m., Jan. 1, at Jackson Beach and ended there as well. Beanies were handed out to the first 80 registered runners.

Some brave souls took an icy dip into the Salish Sea. Island Rec staffers had fires burning and snacks ready to keep participants warm and satiated.

Emilio Baya took second place, and Scott Sears took third. Full results can be viewed at https://www.raceclocker.com/b071dd5e
