Island Rec’s free summer concert series, Music on the Lawn, runs five consecutive Wednesday nights — July 9 through Aug. 6, 6:30-8:30 p.m. on the lawn of the San Juan Historical Museum on Price Street.

Kicking off the season on July 9 is The Fun Band with Don Peake, Lopez Island’s favorite party band with good time rock ‘n’ roll dance music.

On July 16, Jimmy Free’s Friends, a popular band in the Northwest Festival scene, perform their own blend of reggae, rock and rhythm and blues.

Miles From Chicago returns to Music on the Lawn after rain forced their charismatic stage performance indoors in the summer of 2006. They provide a great show with a variety of blues, rock and soul music.

Local singer Kate Schuman teams up with local musician Keith Busha on July 30 for an evening of entertainment crossing the music spectrum with jazz, blues and country favorites.

Closing out the series is a warm and thoughtful performance by Mona Warner. She is often compared to Joan Baez and draws people in with her songs in English and Spanish.

Along with Island Rec, this series is sponsored by Islanders Insurance, Island Petroleum Services, Islanders Bank and Waterworks Gallery. San Juan Historical Museum provides the venue and St. Francis Catholic Church provides space for parking.

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic dinners, blankets or chairs. Please leave dogs and alcohol at home. As the sun begins to set, sweaters and jackets come in handy.
