Port of Friday Harbor completes ‘marvelous venue of music’

This year at the Port of Friday Harbor, we just completed a marvelous venue of music. Our waterfront concert series at Jack Fairweather Park, located near the Coast Salish house posts, was a continuous delight for our visitors and locals throughout the summer.

This year at the Port of Friday Harbor, we just completed a marvelous venue of music.

Our waterfront concert series at Jack Fairweather Park, located near the Coast Salish house posts, was a continuous delight for our visitors and locals throughout the summer.

Through the gracious support of the port commissioners, Greg Hertel, Mike Ahrenius and Barbara Marrett, our musical program has been able to thrive. Also with contributions from our sponsors, we have made this concert series a gift to our community and for visitors from afar.

A special thanks to our sponsors: King’s Marine, Friday Harbor House, Islands Petroleum Services, Whidbey Island Bank, Key Bank, Paulson Custom Homes and islandsmusic.com for their support of this great program.

I would also like to thank the staff at the port for their continuous support and efforts to realize successful events. I could not do this without you. Thank you, Marilyn O’Connor, Tami Hayes, Shawna Rand, Carma Avey, Jeremy Talbott and Phyllis Johnson for your great teamwork.

For every chair hauler or night crew who cleans up, thank you.

We have just completed our eighth year. We had music every Friday evening from the end of June through the end of August. We also enjoyed music every Sunday afternoon beginning at noon with an open mic, finishing off the afternoon with the sounds of many marvelous acts.

Thanks to all the local bands whose talent we are so fortunate to hear. What an amazing variety of talented folks you are! It’s all about you! Thank you all.

For those of you who came to enjoy the shows, keep coming back. I look forward to another marvelous year of summer music; hope to see you then.

To all the wonderful people who made the Music at the Port a success in 2008, thank you!

Sincerely,
Chinmayo
