Police killing of George Floyd | Letter

Thanks to the Journal for publishing Clifford Jordan’s letter. I like to know what our neighbors are thinking.

He asks why the rioting? My opinion is that the world-wide response is due to the in-your-face witness that we all saw as the minutes and seconds passed along with his life. The knee on George Floyd’s neck didn’t lift in spite of the terrible words “I can’t breathe” echoing those of Eric Garner.

What some people don’t seem to realize is this has been the history of our country since the founding. Public lynchings such as this have happened over and over again. They continue. The rage, the anger, the destruction are a response not just to George Floyd’s murder. It is a response to decades and centuries with little change.
