This morning, I dropped off my ballot at the courthouse, and was appalled to find the Black Lives Matter memorial had been replaced with a “Blue Lives Matter” one in its stead. What infuriated me most was a sign that read something to the effect of ‘we want bad cops punished too’. If that is so, where are the Blue Lives Matter supporters who are pushing to end qualified immunity? Where are the Blue Lives Matter supporters who are working to bring Breonna Taylor’s murderers to justice? Your words are empty, and your “memorial” a farce. Those officers consent to the risks when they accept their positions. Black and brown people do not consent to being killed just for their skin color. Do better.
